Lafia City Stadium To Get A New Look For 2025/2026 NPFL Season

The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, on Monday, embarked on a crucial inspection tour of the Lafia City Stadium to assess its condition ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League Season.

Accompanied by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Sports Affairs, Comrade Hamza Moyi Ibrahim, Chairman of Nasarawa United FC, Solomon Babanjah, alongside his Board Members, the Commissioner disclosed that the inspection was aimed at effecting some repairs at the facility to meet the NPFL requirements for the State-owned Premier Football League Club, Nasarawa United, to host its home games.

He was accompanied by a contractor who had been mandated to commence work immediately on areas that have been identified at the Stadium that require urgent attention, including the football pitch.

Installing floodlights and general lighting of the stadium, fixing the seating, perimeter fencing, the dressing rooms, and other facilities are also part of the required area to work on.

In a separate visit, the Commissioner met with players and officials of Nasarawa United during their training session at the Lafia City Stadium.

He expressed enthusiasm for the team’s prospects in the coming season and assured them of the Government’s continuous support. He urged the team not to just participate but win the league, alongside the President’s Federation Cup and also secure one of the continental tickets.

Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United, Mangut Mbwas, appreciated the Commissioner for the visit, disclosing that the team’s morale was boosted by the presence and encouraging words of the Commissioner.

He said the team would be more determined than ever to make a strong impression in the upcoming season, as they would use the few remaining days to get into closed camping to better prepare the team for the tasks ahead.

Chairman, Nasarawa United, Solomon Babanjah, described the Commissioner’s visit as apt and timely. He assured of working assiduously together with his Management, Technical, and Backroom Staff to meet the mandate of the Government.

Nasarawa United will kickstart the 2025/26 NPFL campaign against Niger Tornadoes on the road on Sunday, 24th August, 2025, before hosting their first home match of the season against visiting Abia Warriors on Sunday, 31st August, 2025.
