Brighton Women FC of England goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, is using her nomination for this year’s Yachin Award in the 2025 Ballon d’Or roll call as a charge for all female netminders across Africa to work harder.
Sports247 reports that the Nigerian national team, Super Falcons’ first choice in goal is looking up to the award day, September 22 at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France, to know her fate against the other four nominees – Ann-Katrin Berger of Germany, Cata Coll of Spain, Hannah Hampton of England and Daphne von Domselaar of the Netherlands.
Heading into her date in history, the former Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt and Paris FC of France shot-stopper admitted that she was happy to be nominated for the award but added that it is a reminder to her family, friends and colleagues that hard work pays.
“This nomination means a lot to me. It’s a thing of joy to me and my family. It shows that all the hard work, consistency and all the prayers have been working.
“Of course, I’m so happy about this. It’s like a morale booster, telling me to keep going,” the 24-year-old native of Orlu in Imo State declared.
She then used the award nomination as a point of contact to encourage herself and other ‘keepers across Africa, with a belief that better recommendations can come for them when least expected.
“Whatever you are doing, the world is watching. It also shows that we have a lot of good goalkeepers in Africa. So, I want to use this opportunity to encourage every one of us, all goalkeepers from Africa, to keep on working hard,
“Just keep doing what you are doing, and I believe one day, the sky will be your starting point,” said the 2023 and 2024 African Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, who also emerged best at the recent WAFCON in Morocco.
