Everton Open Talks With Man City For Grealish Loan
Everton have reportedly opened talks with Manchester City over a potential loan deal for Jack Grealish. The England international has seen his playing time under Pep Guardiola drastically reduced at City over the last two seasons. Grealish was handed just seven starts in the Premier League during the 2024-25 season, and Guardiola has hinted he is no longer in his plans for the future.
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to The Athletic, Everton are discussing the possibility of taking Grealish from City on a season-long loan, but the structure of the deal and its financial implications make it a ‘complicated’ operation. While dialogue has opened between the two clubs, there is no certainty that an agreement will be reached.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Grealish arrived at City in the summer of 2021 in a £100 million ($133.13) move from Aston Villa, making him the club’s most expensive signing in history. He penned a six-year deal at the time, tying him to City until 2027. In his debut season, he helped secure the Premier League title and was integral to City’s historic treble success in the 2022-23 campaign. That season saw him start in all of the Champions League knockout rounds as City lifted the prestigious trophy for the first time in their history.
DID YOU KNOW?
However, Grealish’s role has gradually diminished, with the likes of Jeremy Doku and Savinho overtaking him in the attacking pecking order. Moreover, his absence from the squad in key matches, including the FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace and their final 2024-25 league fixture against Fulham, signalled a potential shift in Guardiola’s plans.
WHAT NEXT FOR GREALISH?
Grealish will be looking to find a solution that provides him with more consistent playing time to potentially revive his career. The former Aston Villa captain will be aiming to impress England manager Thomas Tuchel with the 2026 World Cup looming large on the horizon.
