Atalanta Responds To Lookman’s Transfer Request, Reopens Inter Talks

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has broken his silence amid speculation over Ademola Lookman’s future, reaffirming that the final decision on any potential transfer lies with the club.

This follows a strongly-worded statement from the Nigerian international, in which he expressed frustration and claimed he had been treated unfairly despite giving his all to the Bergamo-based outfit.

The 26-year-old forward has also officially requested a transfer, reportedly pushing for a move to Inter Milan.

Responding publicly for the first time, Percassi clarified the background of Lookman’s transfer saga, referencing an earlier attempt by the player to leave in the summer of 2024 after receiving a €20 million offer from Paris Saint-Germain.

“Lookman? This is a good opportunity to clarify what happened,” said Percassi, speaking to Ital Press.

“Last year, following a €20 million offer from PSG, the player asked us to let him leave.

“Atalanta, being a credible club, promised we would consider selling him in this transfer window under two conditions, both requested by the player: first, that the move must be to a top European club; and second, that he would not join another Italian side out of respect for the club.”

He went on to emphasize that the current situation has evolved and that the club is now carefully assessing its position.

“Today, the situation is very different. In any case, the club always carefully evaluates the timing and value of its players — but, as always, it is Atalanta who has the final say.”

Despite Atalanta’s firm stance, reports indicate that negotiations between Atalanta and Inter Milan have resumed, with both sides reportedly optimistic about a deal. Lookman is believed to have already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri.

The Nigerian international is said to be holding Atalanta to their word, aiming for a switch to San Siro before the transfer window closes.

However, Percassi’s statement strongly suggests the club will not be pressured into a deal that does not meet their valuation or violate prior agreements.

Lookman played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s campaign last season, and any departure would mark a significant change for the club, one they intend to control on their own terms.
