Ramsdale Completes Loan Switch To Newcastle
SAINTS have confirmed that goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has joined Premier League side Newcastle United on loan with an option to buy.
England hopeful Ramsdale has secured his desired move back to the top flight, with the Magpies set to cover 100 per cent of his Saints wages.
The 27 year old will spend the year working under Eddie Howe, who previously coached him at Bournemouth, and will compete with Nick Pope and Martin Dúbravka for a starting spot.
Saints have received a sizeable loan fee, believed to be between £4million and £5million, for the goalkeeper they paid an initial £18million to sign from Arsenal last summer.
Ramsdale made 30 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season but was unable to help them avoid relegation to the Championship.
The former Sheffield United shot-stopper travelled to Newcastle for his medical earlier this week before his exit was confirmed on the day Saints faced Brighton in their last friendly.
A statement from Saints added: “The club wishes Aaron well at Newcastle, who finished fifth in the Premier League last term to qualify for the Champions League for the forthcoming campaign.”
