From Anfield To Allianz: How Diaz Can Be Bayern’s New Star
Luis Diaz is a good fit for Bayern Munich despite not being the top target for the club at the start of the summer transfer window.
The road to acquiring Luis Diaz from Liverpool was arduous, to say the least, for Bayern Munich. As far as marquee signings go, Diaz wasn’t Bayern’s number one choice this summer, by any stretch of the imagination. However, after failed attempts to land the likes of Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen, Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, and Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern decided to go all in for the talented Colombian international.
The acquisition of Diaz has resulted in polarizing views amongst the Bavarian faithful, and for good reason. The 28-year-old forward is a proven top-level player based on his three and a half years at Merseyside. However, the guaranteed €70 million spent to acquire him and a four-year contract at €14 million per annum is steep for a player who may be at the back end of his prime and unlikely to have much resale value thereafter. Having said that, if Lucho can adapt quickly to Vincent Kompany’s system while displaying the same heart and desire he showed at Liverpool, then his tenure in Bavaria could well be a trophy-laden one.
Let’s now take a closer look at what Diaz brings to table; what he can build on and most importantly how the German Champions and the player could thrive together.
