Super Falcons Eye World Cup Glory After WAFCON Triumph

Nigeria’s female football national team, Super Falcons have turned their focus on winning the next FIFA Women’s World Cup, as they seek to achieve greater height after conquering Africa for the 10th time.

Sports247 gathered that the Falcons’ 3-2 victory over Morocco in Saturday’s 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final means Nigeria has won 10 out of the competition’s 13 editions; and they even went home with a brand new trophy that was launched specially for this year’s edition.

The team’s chain of achievements has now left Falcons’ players aiming for equally big results on the global stage, and their next charge is being led by WAFCON 2024 winning captain, Rasheedat Ajibade.

‘The Lady With Blue Hair’ stated the Falcons’ next target while delivering an expertly scripted speech on Monday during a state reception that was organised for them at The Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Ajibade pointed out, “Our journey to this moment has been one of great determination and courage. We have faced the best teams in the world and held our own on the global stage.

“We are not content to rest on our laurels. Our vision is bold … we want to become the best female football team in the world.”

The product of FC Robo Queens of Lagos, who is also fondly called ‘Rash’ by her colleagues, added that they now want to step up from the level of mere participants at the Ladies’ Mundial into that of title contenders.

Ajibade, though, quickly interjected that the players will need total support from their fans, Nigerian football top shots and the National Sports Commission (NSC) in order to achieve their huge ambitions.

She averred, “We dream of standing on top of the global stage … not just as competitors, but as champions.

“To achieve this, we humbly seek the continuation and enhanced support of the Nigerian Football Federation, sports ministry and the federal government. With your partnership, we can have world-class training facilities.”

Ajibade concluded by pointing out that each step taken forward by the present Falcons’ squad would be an inspiration for young players to emulate, as they seek to live their ambitious dreams of excelling in the nation’s jersey.

“We’ll be able to stay in the best place possible, as we create a pathway for the next generation of Falcons to soar even higher.

“Together, we can show the world that Nigeria is not just a participant in global football but a leader.

“We want to keep making the nation proud and bring more joy to Nigerians around the world. Let’s change the narrative together,” Ajibade concluded eloquently.
