Gov. Abiodun Praises Super Falcons’ WAFCON Triumph

Gov. AbioOgun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has lauded the Super Falcons of Nigeria following their historic 3–2 comeback victory against host nation Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), describing the achievement as a powerful symbol of national pride and resilience.

The thrilling encounter, which saw the Nigerian team overturn a 2–0 first-half deficit, earned the Super Falcons a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, reinforcing their status as the most decorated women’s football team on the continent.

In a statement released on Sunday, Governor Abiodun praised the Super Falcons for their extraordinary performance, noting that their determination and spirit of excellence serve as an inspiration to millions across Africa.

“This remarkable victory is more than a football triumph—it is a powerful symbol of courage, perseverance, and unity,” the governor said. “The Super Falcons have once again displayed world-class skill and determination, lifting the spirit of the nation and inspiring a new generation of athletes.”

He applauded the team’s ability to overcome adversity on foreign soil, emphasizing that their grit and mental strength were central to their stunning turnaround against the North African hosts.

Governor Dapo Abiodun also underlined the significance of the win beyond sports, calling it a beacon of hope for young Nigerians—especially girls—who dare to dream of greatness.

“This historic win is a clarion call to every young girl dreaming of breaking barriers. The Super Falcons have proven that with dedication and belief, there are no limits to what can be achieved,” he added.

The governor extended his commendation to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), coaching crew, and all stakeholders who have contributed to the sustained success of women’s football in Nigeria.

“This is not just a victory for the Super Falcons; it is a triumph for Nigerian sports, for gender equity in athletics, and for the enduring power of dreams fulfilled through determination,” he concluded.

The Super Falcons’ victory has continued to generate widespread celebration across the nation, with tributes pouring in from fans, sports administrators, and public officials alike.
