Official: Barça Defender Agrees New Deal Until 2030
Since the turn of the year, FC Barcelona have been busy securing contract renewals of key players in the squad.
A plethora of stars like Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Inigo Martinez, among others, have all signed new extensions with the La Liga champions.
Work is also being done to renew Eric Garcia and Frenkie de Jong, whose current deals run out in 2026.
Jules Kounde renewed until 2027
Now, according to L’Equipe, Jules Kounde currently under contract with Barcelona until 2027, is set to extend his deal for an additional three seasons, keeping him at the club until June 2030. Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed the development.
The agreement between the player and the club is complete, and official confirmation is expected imminently, with the three-year extension for the Frenchman coming with a salary increase.
Interest from other clubs, particularly in the Premier League, was not lacking. Manchester City had been monitoring the situation closely.
However, the former Sevilla defender is happy at Barcelona, where he has won the La Liga title twice and is aiming for Champions League success with the club.
Talks to extend Kounde’s contract had been ongoing for a while now, with the most recent meeting taking place earlier this month. Now, the two parties have finalised their positions. Only a few minor details remain before the official announcement.
Despite not playing in his natural role, Kounde’s performances at right-back have ranked him among the best in the world in that position. His consistency has earned the admiration of manager Hansi Flick.
While he has not abandoned hope of returning to central defence, the position where he feels his potential is best used, Kounde is aware that he still has many strong years ahead at right-back, where he is forging a solid partnership with Lamine Yamal.
