Former Boss Frank Backs Mbeumo’s £70m United Transfer
Latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip as Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank gives his verdict on Bryan Mbeumo’s move to United
Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank has weighed in on Bryan Mbeumo’s impending move to Manchester United.
Mbeumo is close to completing a switch to United from Brentford after the Reds agreed a £70million deal for the Cameroon international. United will pay an initial fee worth £65million plus the potential for a further £5million in add-ons.
United and Brentford have been locked in negotiations for a deal for Mbeumo for several weeks and finally reached a breakthrough on Friday. The offer from United was the third bid presented to the Bees, which has now been accepted as Mbeumo looks set to secure a move to Old Trafford.
Tottenham also expressed an interest in signing Mbeumo before United beat the North London outfit in the race for the winger’s signature earlier in the summer.
Frank was Mbeumo’s manager during his time as Brentford boss before he took on the role as Tottenham manager in the summer, replacing Ange Postecoglou in the process.
It was Frank who signed Mbeumo from Troyes back in 2019, and the Spurs boss has now given his reaction to the 25-year-old’s move to United.
“Bryan [Mbeumo], of course, is a fantastic player. I have been with him for five years,” Frank told reporters on Friday.
“I think he deserves the move, no matter where he goes. And as a player, I wish him all the best when you’ve been with a player for so long.”
United will be hoping to wrap up a deal for Mbeumo in the near future and make the forward their second signing of the summer transfer window. United have already completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5million deal, while the club also brought in Diego Leon after a deal was agreed with Cerro Porteno earlier in the year.
