Basketball: NBBF’s Ogu Edezue Rallies Support For D’Tigress

Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) head of marketing, Ugo Edezue has sent out a clarion call to corporate bodies and fans of the sport to rally round the country’s women’s national team, D’Tigress during this week’s friendly games in Lagos.

Sports247 reports that Edezue spoke with glee and excitement, as D’Tigress get set to host Togo and Kenya in games that are also aimed at preparing them for this year’s AfroBasket Women’s Championship.

Edezue pointed out that the basketball spree in Lagos, which starts this Thursday, will equally accord slam-dunk fans a rare opportunity of seeing the social side of their favourite players, as they will all be highlighted outside the court.

The marketing guru added, “The homecoming event is the first time in five years that our team is going to play in Nigeria.

“So, it’s important for us to showcase not just the basketball flair but also the whole lifestyle that revolves around these talented women.”

Edezue went on to sing praises for the female stars under focus, who he pointed out will soon be gunning for an unprecedented sixth AfroBasket title.

He declared, “These are very beautiful, strong, intelligent and hard-working women who have done our nation proud.

“So, I think it’s good for us to bring them home and let people actually understand what they are doing and watch them in action here in Nigeria.”

He continued by giving details of the upcoming matches, and stressed the importance of total commitment from all Nigerians in various aspects of support for the team.

Edezue concluded: “The team will play against Togo and Kenya in preparation for this year’s AfroBasket championship. So, I think it will be a great opportunity for potential partners to get involved.

“The games will take place at the Mo Arena on the 17th of this month. It will then spread into a whole weekend of activities, and it’s going to be very interesting.

“I also think it’s a good time for Nigerians to come around and sponsor the project. They should come out to support and cheer these ladies on as they go for their sixth AfroBasket title. No team in Africa has ever done it.”
