Perez Welcomes Carreras To Real Madrid: “Bernabeu Awaits”

Alvaro Carreras was officially unveiled as a new Real Madrid player today. The left-back posed for photos alongside his family, holding his new jersey and standing proudly in front of Real Madrid’s 15 Champions League trophies.

Carreras, who has signed a long-term contract with the club, has been handed the number ’18’ shirt for the new season.

This marks a change from the ‘3’ he wore at Benfica and the ’24’ he once sported during his time in Madrid’s youth academy.

It is to be noted that Carreras left Real Madrid’s academy back in 2020 in search of more playing time.

His journey took him to England with Manchester United before moving to Benfica, where he found his best form.

Now at 22, he returns to Madrid as a complete modern full-back, fast, intense, skilled with the ball, and focused on improving his defensive game.

Florentino Perez welcomes Carreras back to Real Madrid
During the presentation, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez shared a few heartfelt words, welcoming Carreras back to the club where his journey began.

“Good morning to Alvaro’s parents, Paula and Francisco, and good afternoon to everyone else. Today is once again an important day for all Real Madrid fans because welcoming back a player is a special act,” said Perez.

“We are experiencing one of the most successful seasons in our history; now we continue working so that the fans can continue dreaming of these challenges.

“For this new season, we’ve already added players like Trent, Huijsen, and Mastantuono, as well as a coach like Xabi Alonso, one of the best in the world. Today, we introduce another of those great players: Alvaro Carreras,” he noted.

Perez highlighted Carreras’ journey, reminding everyone that he started at Racing de Ferrol and Deportivo before joining Real Madrid’s academy.

He has since earned recognition as one of Europe’s best left-backs and represented Spain’s U-21 national team.

“Today, you’re returning to a city you came to as a child, learning what it means to be part of the most successful club in the world.

“Your dream was to play for the first team, and that’s why, like so many others, you decided to leave and return as the great player you are.

“Dear Real Madrid fans, today one of our youth players returns, today one of our own arrives at Madrid, having become one of the best defenders in European football.

“The Bernabeu awaits you; today marks the beginning of a period of intense emotions for you. Welcome home, welcome to Real Madrid,” he concluded.
