Chelsea Set To Cash In On Goalkeeper

Newly crowned FIFA Club World Cup winners Chelsea are set to cash in on the sale of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

AFC Bournemouth and Chelsea are set to do yet another deal for a goalkeeper, with the Cherries previously striking deals with the London-based club for Asmir Begovic and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

With Kepa Arrizabalaga joining Arsenal following his loan spell with the Cherries, AFC Bournemouth were once again in the market for a new goalkeeper, this time turning attentions towards 25-year-old Đorđe Petrović.

The Serbia international came through the youth ranks at Serbian SuperLiga side FK Čukarički, making 86 appearances for the club, including appearances in the UEFA Conference League.

Petrović would make the move to the United States of America in 2022 signing for Major League Soccer club New England Revolution where he would make 48 appearances in two seasons and was selected for the MLS All-Star game.

In 2023 he joined Chelsea for a reported fee of £12.5 million. He made 31 appearances for Chelsea, before spending the end of last season on loan with Ligue 1 club Strasbourg where he was named as the club’s player of the season.

According to Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam, “Petrovic is said to be intrigued by Bournemouth’s project”.

Accurate info from @FabrizioRomano – Bournemouth have made an offer to Chelsea for GK Djordje Petrovic.

Petrovic is said to be intrigued by Bournemouth’s project and is open to moving to the south-coast.

in the eighty-eighth percentile for crosses stopped and the eighty-second percentile for percentage of crosses stopped. This means that he is comfortable dealing with crosses.

As well as that, he’s in the eighty-second percentile for defensive actions performed outside of the penalty area, meaning that he is very adept at playing the sweeper keeper role (important given our high line.)

He’s basically good at everything apart from passing. Make to mistake, this would be a huge signing if we can pull it off and he is definitely an upgrade on Kepa.

It’s a bold move for a club like us to spend that much on a keeper. The recruitment team have more than earned some trust in their judgement. Looking forward to seeing him in action.
