We Have To Give Everything, Says Malo Gusto

Malo Gusto wants more of the team spirit and desire which has seen Chelsea progress through the FIFA Club World Cup so far when we take to the pitch at the MetLife Stadium again for the final on Sunday.

The Frenchman started at right-back on Tuesday evening when we defeated Fluminense 2-0 in the Club World Cup semi-finals in New Jersey, at the same venue which will host the final.

It was another strong performance by the Blues and our fifth win from six matches at this tournament in the USA, leaving us now just one more victory away from lifting the trophy.

Gusto’s role has varied across our games, featuring on the right and left of our defence, while sometimes coming inside to bolster our midfield. However, when asked about his role, he was quick to highlight the team effort against Fluminense and throughout the tournament.

‘It doesn’t matter where I play to be honest. I just try to give my best wherever I play,’ began Gusto, before switching focus to the team’s performance.

‘The most important thing is to help the team to show our desire to win, to keep pushing together.

‘That’s what we did on Tuesday night and I think that’s why we won. So we are happy to get to this final and we will try to win it.’

We will meet fellow European opposition for just the second time at the Club World Cup in Sunday’s final, when we face UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, but our defender believes it is more important to concentrate on our performance than our opponents.

‘It doesn’t matter who we are going to play in the final,’ Gusto added, following the victory over Fluminense. ‘We just have to stay focused on ourselves before the final, stick to our plan and give everything.

‘The most important thing was to do the job on Tuesday, and now we are focused on trying to win the final and lift the trophy.’

It was a similar story when Gusto was asked about the performance of Joao Pedro, who scored both our semi-final goals on his first start for the Blues, with Malo fully focused on the team effort, in addition to praising his new Brazilian team-mate.

‘He’s a top talent, everyone knows that,’ said the Frenchman. ‘As I’ve said before, we have a lot of good talent in the team.

‘Now the most important thing is to create something all together as a group, to continue to grow together and to give everything.’
