New Liverpool Push For Gordon After Recent Reveal
Liverpool remain interested in Newcastle star Anthony Gordon and are plotting a late-summer move, sources have told Football Insider.
The 24-year-old came close to a move to Anfield last summer and told friends at the time that he was “very keen” on the switch.
Liverpool have been keeping close tabs on Gordon and are aware that Newcastle are close to confirming the signing of Anthony Elanga after agreeing terms with Nottingham Forest, and are also monitoring Man City’s Jack Grealish.
Should the duo join a wide forward roster that already includes Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy, that could open the door for the Merseyside giants to swoop for the former Everton star.
Sources say Gordon is still open to a move to Liverpool despite having signed a new long-term contract at Newcastle in October to extend his stay until 2030.
Newcastle are reluctant to sell their star players this summer, but privately value the England international at around £100million.
Liverpool, meanwhile, could sign a versatile forward who can play in multiple positions as they plan potential signings following Diogo Jota’s passing and amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Darwin Nunez.
Speculation about Luis Diaz continues to mount, but the Merseysiders have privately insisted they will not sell him this summer.
Liverpool reignite Anthony Gordon pursuit after swap deal talks
Gordon made the switch to Newcastle from Liverpool’s arch-rivals Everton back in January 2023, for an initial fee of £40m.
In his two and a half years on Tyneside, the England international has caught the attention of a number of top clubs with his performances.
Just 12 months ago, the former Toffee came close to a move to Liverpool following talks over a swap deal involving Joe Gomez.
Last season Gordon continued to shine, starting 28 Premier League games for the Magpies, as well as scoring six goals and picking up six assists over the course of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are reportedly unlikely to agree to a swap deal which would see Ben Doak included in any move for Marc Guehi to join Liverpool.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that Oliver Glasner’s side are sticking to their valuation of the 24-year-old.
Brown told Football Insider on 24 June that Liverpool must pay £50million for Guehi and may be willing to do so as Arne Slot will offer assurances over his playing time.
The Reds value Doak at around £30million and hope his inclusion in a deal would cut Guehi’s asking price down to a similar fee, but the Eagles do not see value in the deal.
