Liverpool Pre-Season To Feature Jota Tribute

Liverpool have confirmed plans for a tribute show to Diogo Jota on Monday evening as LFC TV prepares to return to air for the first time since the Portuguese’s passing. The 28-year-old was killed in a car crash, along with his brother, Andre Silva, in the early hours of Thursday morning (July 3).

The brothers had been travelling across Spain in order to catch a ferry to return to England ahead of the start of Liverpool’s pre-season when their vehicle veered off the road following a tyre blowout.

Jota and Silva were both laid to rest in their hometown of Gondomar on Saturday (July 5), with Arne Slot, a delegation of Reds bosses and the majority of the playing squad in attendance.

LFCTV is currently off-air, with the channel instead showing an on-screen tribute to Jota.

Alongside a greyscale picture of the forward doing a heart gesture with his fingers, it features the club’s official statement following Jota and Silva’s passing.

It reads: “Diogo Jota 1996-2025. Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

“The 28-year-old passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain, along with his brother, Andre.

“Liverpool FC requests the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.

“We will continue to provide them with our full support. For tribute to Diogo, please visit www.liverpoolfc.com”.

The channel has also sporadically shown the short tribute video, lasting three minutes and 34 seconds, that the club released on its social media channels on Thursday night.

But LFCTV will return to air on Monday evening with a special tribute show to Jota, called ‘Remembering Diogo: Our number 20’.

Starting at 6pm, the show description reads: “Join us at Anfield as we remember Diogo Jota, our lad from Portugal, who will be so greatly missed.”

The hour-long tribute show will then be followed by a 30-minute goals compilation, showing all of Jota’s 65 goals for the club.

Called ‘Diogo Jota: All the Goals’, the episode description reads: “Remember the impact Diogo made on us as we run through every one of his 65 Liverpool goals.”

LFCTV will later show 15-minute highlights from Liverpool’s Merseyside derby victory over Everton at Anfield last season – a game in which Jota scored his last goal for the club. It was also the winner as the Reds won 1-0 to move a step closer to the Premier League title.

Getting underway at 9.45pm, that will then be followed by a repeat of the channel’s tribute show from earlier in the day at 10pm.

Liverpool’s players are set to report back to the AXA Training Centre for the start of pre-season on Tuesday (July 8).
