Nasarawa Amazons Get ₦85M, New Bus From Gov. Sule
The Nasarawa Amazons Football Club has received a generous reward from the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, in recognition of the team’s exceptional performance during the 2024/25 football season.
At a special reception held at the Government House, Governor Sule announced a total cash reward of ₦85 million for athletes, coaches, and supporters, with ₦30 million going directly to the Nasarawa Amazons. Out of this, ₦25 million was allocated to the players, while the coaching crew received ₦5 million.
In addition to the cash rewards, the state government also donated a brand-new Toyota Hiace bus to the team, reinforcing its commitment to sports development and support for women’s football.
The Nasarawa Amazons had an impressive 2024/25 campaign, finishing as runners-up in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership and clinching silver in the President Federation Cup final held recently in Lagos.
Their season was further highlighted by individual brilliance:
Janet Akekoromowei was named Most Valuable Player of the 2024/25 NWFL season.
Shobowale Olushola emerged as the MVP of the 2025 President Federation Cup.
Governor Sule lauded the team’s achievements and reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting sports in Nasarawa State. “Your efforts have brought pride to our state, and we remain committed to supporting our athletes and sports institutions,” he said during the ceremony.
This gesture further cements Nasarawa State’s reputation as a stronghold of women’s football in Nigeria and underscores the state government’s dedication to empowering youth through sports.
