The organizers of the forthcoming Asaba International Road Race has said that winners in various categories of the marathon events are to receive handsome rewards in both Naira and Dollars denomination.
Sports Market International reports that the Asaba International Road Race is a 10km event scheduled to take place on October 5, 2025, in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria. The race is being organized to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge SAN.
The race will commence from the Cenotaph and terminate at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
According to the event’s consultant, Mr. Moses Nwanze, CEO of Lexicon, who highlighted the financial incentives for participants, the prizes will be given out to the Nigerian winners and the winners in the elite category who will be mainly the foreign participation.
He said cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in various categories. Local athletes and Asaba indigenous winners will receive cash prizes, while foreign athletes will compete for a USD 9,000 prize.
Nwanze said that “the race is designed to attract a diverse group of participants, including amateur runners, local and international elite runners, and fun runners. The organizers anticipate approximately 40,000 athletes to participate in the inaugural edition.
“The event aims to rebrand Asaba through sports, leveraging the influx of athletes, scouts, and spectators to boost the local economy. In addition to the main 10km race, a 5km road walk will also be held to promote fitness and health. The event will also offer a venue for networking, exposure, and cross-cultural exchange.
The event is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy and promote Asaba on an international stage.
