Alavés, Elche Eye Nigerian Striker Umar Sadiq
Spanish La Liga side Deportivo Alavés and newly-promoted Elche CF are reportedly locked in a transfer tussle to secure the services of Nigerian international Umar Sadiq ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Sadiq, 28, is no stranger to Spanish football, having previously played for UD Almería, where he was instrumental in their promotion to La Liga, before brief spells at Real Sociedad and Valencia.
His familiarity with the Spanish style of play and proven ability to lead the line make him an attractive option for clubs looking to bolster their attacking options.
Elche CF, back in the top flight after a successful campaign in the Segunda División, are keen to strengthen their squad with experienced players to ensure survival.
Meanwhile, Alavés, looking to improve on last season’s mid-table finish, see Sadiq as a valuable addition to their frontline.
The former Nigerian Olympic star boasts a versatile European resume, having also played in Italy for Spezia, AS Roma, Bologna, and Torino. Known for his physical presence, sharp movement, and aerial prowess, Sadiq’s profile fits the bill for teams seeking a reliable goal scorer.
With both clubs intensifying interest, a summer move for Sadiq could be on the horizon, potentially marking his fourth stint in Spain — a country where he has arguably played his best football.
Negotiations are expected to accelerate in the coming weeks as both clubs aim to finalize deals before preseason preparations begin.
