Amusan Targets Big Performance In Ostrava Return
Nigeria’s sprint hurdling sensation and World Record holder, Tobi Amusan, is set to return to action on Tuesday, June 25, as she lines up for the women’s 100m Hurdles at the prestigious Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Coming off an electric performance in Paris just last week—where she clocked a season’s best of 12.24s, the second-fastest time of her career—Amusan looks to continue her impressive build-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. That time currently ranks her as the second-fastest woman in the world this year, only behind reigning world champion Nia Ali.
With her rich form and growing confidence, all eyes will be on the Nigerian star when the gun goes off at 5:35 p.m. Nigerian time. She remains the clear favourite on the start list, boasting a personal best and world record of 12.12s.
Her main challengers in Ostrava include Ireland’s Sarah Lavin, who holds a personal best of 12.62s, and Slovakia’s Viktoria Forster, with a PB of 12.72s. Despite the presence of these talented athletes, Amusan is widely tipped to dominate the race, potentially lowering her season’s best—or even flirting with sub-12.20 territory.
Tuesday’s outing will mark another critical test for the 2022 World Champion as she fine-tunes her form ahead of a highly anticipated Olympic campaign.
Fans across Nigeria and the athletics world will be watching closely to see if lightning strikes again for Africa’s Queen of the Hurdles.
