Adisa Edges Kovrigin In WBC Grand Prix Bout
Nigerian featherweight boxer, Yusuf Adeniji Adisa, continued his unbeaten run with a hard-fought majority decision victory over Kazakhstan’s Alexandr Kovrigin in the second phase of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Grand Prix, held live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Adisa edged the contest with judges scoring it 56-56, 57-56, and 59-53, improving his professional record to 16 wins, 0 losses, and 10 knockouts (16-0-0, 10 KOs).
The intense bout showcased Adisa’s tactical discipline and endurance against a resilient Kovrigin, who came into the ring with a reputation for grit and power.
Despite a close start, the Nigerian southpaw gained control in the latter rounds to secure a place in the Round of 16, scheduled for August 2025, as part of Phase 3 of the WBC Grand Prix.
The victory not only preserves Adisa’s undefeated streak but also cements his rising profile on the international boxing stage, as he aims for a shot at the prestigious WBC title later in the tournament.
