Chairman of Showtime Flag Football League, Azeez Amida, has congratulated the players selected to represent Nigeria at the inaugural African Flag Football Tournament set to hold in Egypt, calling the moment a powerful testament to the game’s growth in the country.
In a message shared on social media, Amida expressed pride in the athletes, stating:
“Congratulations to every player selected to represent Nigeria at the inaugural African Flag Football Tournament in Egypt. Your dedication, talent, and hard work have earned you this honor, and we are proud to see you carry our flag on the continental stage.”
Amida also extended heartfelt thanks to the National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade, as well as the organizers NAFA (Nigeria Association of Flag Football) for making the milestone possible.
He used the occasion to highlight a critical next step—establishing a national federation for flag football in Nigeria:
“What we have achieved as private entities is already a great feat. We can do much more with a strong federation structure behind it.”
According to Amida, a federation would provide structure, transparent governance, opportunity, and clear pathways for players at every level—from grassroots clinics to international competition.
Coming on the heels of the highly successful Showtime Bowl XII, and the growing reach of the sport across Nigerian states, Amida emphasized that this moment is more than a celebration—it’s a call to action for uniting and professionalizing flag football in the country.
“This is just the beginning. We are committed to building a long-term vision that gives every talented athlete a path to greatness.”
