Westerloo Hires Charai, OH Leuven Taps Hubert
Belgium’s Pro League clubs are ringing the management changes with Issame Charai replacing Timmy Simons as manager of Westerloo, while at OH Leuven, David Hubert (pictured centre) succeeds Chris Coleman.
Westerlo moved quickly to replace Simons with Charai, 43, who had been linked with the role. Westerlo said: “Charaï’s knowledge of the domestic competition and his commitment to developing young talent make him an excellent match for our club’s vision and long-term strategy.”
Charai won the U23 Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco and served as an assistant at STVV, Beerschot, OH Leuven and Strasbourg. He was also the right-hand man of Philippe Clement at Glasgow Rangers.
In Leuven, Hubert has taken over already. Three months ago, Anderlecht dismissed Hubert, but now he returns to the club where he played from 2017 to 2021. Hubert signed a 2-year-contract.
“David Hubert is a young, modern coach with a lot of potential,” said OH Leuven CEO Frederic Van Den Steen.
“During our conversations he showed himself to be hungry and ambitious. Moreover, he knows the Belgian competition and the house, which is a huge advantage. In the four seasons at OH Leuven he has left something beautiful as a player and showed a lot of desire to also make his mark as a coach.”
