Boredom Strikes Bayern Ace Before Musiala’s Finish
Bayern Munich registered a thumping 10-0 win against Auckland City in their opening FIFA Club World Cup group game on Sunday.
The New Zealand outfit chased shadows throughout the game as Bayern ripped them to shreds, with Jamal Musiala scoring a hat-trick.
Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman, and Michael Olise also scored twice in what was the biggest footballing mismatch you would ever see.
What Manuel Neuer did during the match
The 39-year-old goalkeeper had nothing to do during the game apart from making routine catches.
According to a report from Bild, he was “so bored” in the second half that he lay down in the centre circle and stretched extensively before Jamal Musiala’s penalty.
In the 80th minute, he made one save, but it was still a comfortable one.
More than Bayern’s dominance in the game, what was evident was the gulf in quality between the two sides.
It was always going to be challenging for the part-timers to mount a strong fight against the six-time UEFA Champions League winners.
Bayern went 4-0 ahead before 25 minutes, and by the time the referee blew the final whistle to end Auckland’s misery, they had hit double figures for the first time since August 2021 to set up a new record in this competition.
Notable performances from Bayern Munich players
Vincent Kompany was delighted with the performance of Kingsley Coman, and he refused to discuss the Frenchman’s future, which likely lies away from the club.
He scored two goals and could have easily got a hat-trick on another day. The 29-year-old also made history by becoming the first scorer of this new FIFA Club World Cup format.
Olise was superb as well. He not only scored a couple of goals but also registered two assists. His second goal was a thing of beauty and was hailed as “sublime”.
Musiala made his return after a long-term injury with a “spectacular” hat-trick, while Thomas Muller scored his 250th goal in his final tournament with Bayern.
