Arsenal Marquinhos Joins Cruzeiro
Marquinhos has moved to Brazilian Serie A side Cruzeiro in a permanent transfer.
The 22-year-old joined us from Sao Paulo in June 2022 and made six appearances in all competitions. He scored an impressive first goal for us on his competitive debut in our 2-1 away win against FC Zurich in the UEFA Europa League group stage in September of the same year.
Marquinhos progressed through Sao Paulo’s academy and graduated to the first team, making his debut as an 18-year-old. He made 33 first-team appearances during his time with Sao Paulo and was a part of the squad which won the Compeonato Paulista in 2021.
The left-footed forward spent valuable time on loan with Norwich City, Nantes, Fluminense and Cruzeiro during his Arsenal career. Marquinhos made 11 appearances for Norwich City during the 2022/23 season in a short-term loan spell. Seven appearances for Nantes in Ligue 1 came the following season before his recall. He then signed a year-long loan with then recently crowned Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense. Marquinhos made 29 appearances in all competitions and lifted silverware in Brazil once again, when Fluminense won the Recopa Sudamericana against LDU Quito in March 2024. Marquinhos has been on loan with Cruzeiro since January 2025 and has made 18 appearances in all competitions.
A Brazil youth international, Marquinhos has made 18 appearances between Under-16 and Under-23 level, representing his country in the Under-17 South American Championship and Under-20 World Cup.
Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Marquinhos for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.
The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
