Eid-el-Kabir: Ogun FA Chair Praises Muslims & Sports

As Muslims around the world commemorate the spiritually significant festival of Eid-el-Kabir, the Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association and Executive Board Member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, has extended warm and heartfelt greetings to the global Muslim Ummah—particularly to the devout faithful in Ogun State and across Nigeria.

In his Eid message, Alhaji Majekodunmi called for peace, unity, and continued dedication to the values of compassion, sacrifice, and service exemplified by the Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

He urged Muslims to remain committed to righteousness, mutual respect, and interfaith harmony as a foundation for national unity and development.

“This sacred season reminds us of our duty to uphold faith, love, and generosity,” he said.

“Let us use this opportunity to renew our commitment to peaceful coexistence and to helping those around us, regardless of background or belief.”

Alhaji Majekodunmi’s message comes on the heels of Ogun State’s resounding success in hosting the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged “Gateway Games 2024.” The festival was praised as one of the best-organized editions in recent history. Ogun State finished third overall with 179 medals—64 gold, 69 silver, and 46 bronze—underscoring its rising status in national sports.

The games drew praise from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, for promoting unity and showcasing the country’s youth talent.

Governor Dapo Abiodun also lauded the success, stating it reaffirmed Ogun State’s capacity for excellence in both organization and performance.

Alhaji Majekodunmi emphasized the connection between faith and sport, noting that both are powerful tools for building community and fostering discipline, resilience, and national pride.

He concluded by praying for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria, urging continued investment in youth, sports, and spiritual development.
