Ogbonda Targets African Glory For Bayelsa Queens
Fresh off their commanding run to the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title, Bayelsa Queens FC are now setting their sights on conquering the continent.
Head coach Whyte Ogbonda speaking with Sports247 declared the team’s readiness to go beyond their previous best—a third-place finish at the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League.
With a thrilling campaign capped by a 5–1 demolition of Benue Queens and an unmatched 14-game unbeaten streak, the “Restoration Girls” finished top of the NWFL Super Six table, claiming their sixth league title.
Ogbonda, who joined the club in mid-2024 after a successful spell with Rivers Angels, is leading a renewed push for international dominance.
“We’re working hard to achieve it and accomplish something that to many may appear impossible,” he said. “This is not just about competing. We are going there to contend for the title.”
Bayelsa Queens are not just talking—they’re reinforcing. The club recently bolstered its attack with the signings of Oscar Precious, Confidence Onen, and Yinusa Zainab, all rising stars from the NWFL Championship.
The ambition is clearly shared beyond the dugout. “The support we have received from the state government has been marvellous—financially and otherwise,” Ogbonda acknowledged, emphasizing the collective drive behind the team’s continental aspirations.
As the countdown begins to the CAF Women’s Champions League, fans and analysts alike are watching closely. Bayelsa Queens are no longer content with being Nigeria’s best—they’re out to be Africa’s finest.
