Nigerian shot put star Chukwuebuka Enekwechi delivered an impressive performance at the Città della Quercia meet in Rovereto, launching the shot to a Season’s Best (SB) of 21.62 meters to secure a commendable third-place finish in a fiercely competitive field.
Enekwechi, a consistent force in African and global athletics, showed great form throughout the event, improving on his previous marks this season and reaffirming his status as Nigeria’s leading shot putter.
The event was won by Zane Weir of Italy, who threw a commanding 21.84 meters to take the gold, while Roger Steen of the United States claimed second place with 21.77 meters, just 15 centimeters ahead of Enekwechi.
Despite finishing third, the Nigerian athlete’s performance marks a significant boost as the outdoor season heats up, especially with major championships on the horizon, including the 2025 World Athletics Championships and Paris 2026 preparations.
Enekwechi’s SB of 21.62m reflects his upward trajectory this year and adds momentum to his campaign to remain a key figure on the international shot put circuit.
The Città della Quercia meet, part of the European athletics calendar, drew top-tier talents from across the globe, and Enekwechi’s podium finish solidifies his place among the elite as he continues to build toward even greater distances.
