Babajide Hypes Super Falcons-Cameroon Clash In Abeokuta
As the Super Falcons gear up for a fierce international friendly against long-time rivals Cameroon, forward Rinsola Babajide has stoked the flames of anticipation by boldly declaring the Indomitable Lionesses as Nigeria’s “biggest rivals.”
The high-profile encounter is set to take place at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, with fans expected to fill the stadium for what promises to be a thrilling contest between two African football powerhouses.
In a show of support, the Ogun State Government has made entry free to the public.
“Cameroon is our biggest rival—it’s going to be fire,” Babajide said ahead of the tie. “I will contribute the best I can to the team to help us win. We are staying focused as we don’t want any distractions.”
The match, though tagged a friendly, carries the weight of history and pride, with both teams renowned for their continental dominance and fierce rivalry.
For Babajide, the contest is more than just another game—it’s a chance to deepen her mark in Nigerian football and fuel the nation’s ambition ahead of upcoming competitions.
Since making her senior debut for Nigeria in October 2023, the England-born winger has dazzled fans with her explosive pace, technical skill, and fearless approach.
Babajide, who previously represented England at youth level, has quickly become a key figure in Coach Randy Waldrum’s plans.
A product of top-tier football, the Yoruba-born talent has worn the colours of elite English clubs including Liverpool, Millwall Lionesses, Watford, and Brighton & Hove Albion. Now firmly focused on national duty, she is relishing the opportunity to face Cameroon on home soil.
Tuesday’s game is expected to be a curtain-raiser to more intense battles ahead, especially as both teams prepare for major tournaments including the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and the Paris Olympics.
With local fans set to pack the Abeokuta stadium, all eyes will be on Babajide and her teammates as they look to assert Nigeria’s dominance over their arch-rivals once again.
