Awujoola Wins CAF Champions League With Pyramids FC
Nigerian winger Sodiq Olamilekan Awujoola has added a major continental title to his growing football résumé, playing a key role in Pyramid FC’s triumphant campaign in the 2024/25 CAF Champions League.
The 24-year-old, on loan from Ceramica Cleopatra, was part of the squad that lifted the coveted trophy as Pyramid FC defeated Sundowns FC 2-1 on Sunday evening in Cairo and 3-2 over two legs marking a historic moment for both the player and the Egyptian club.
Having drawn the first leg 1-1 in Pretoria, the Egyptian side secured a 3-2 aggregate win, becoming the fourth different club from Egypt to win Africa’s most prestigious club competition—joining Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Ismaily in a feat unmatched by any other nation
Awujoola has steadily risen through the ranks of African football. He began his youth career with Shooting Stars before making his senior debut with the Nigerian side in 2019.
After two years, he made a move to the Egyptian Premier League, joining Smouha SC, where he recorded 11 goals in 48 appearances.
In 2023, he signed with Ceramica Cleopatra, continuing his impressive form with another 11 goals in 27 league matches. His consistent performances earned him a loan move to Pyramid FC ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Known for his versatility, Awujoola is primarily deployed as a left-winger but is comfortable operating on either flank, thanks to his ambidextrous ability and sharp playmaking instincts.
His contribution to Pyramid FC’s CAF Champions League campaign has not gone unnoticed, as fans and analysts praised his impact in key fixtures leading to the club’s maiden continental success.
With his loan spell drawing to a close, attention now turns to Awujoola’s future—whether he returns to Ceramica Cleopatra or secures a permanent move to Pyramid FC or another top side remains to be seen.
For now, the Nigerian star celebrates a landmark achievement in what promises to be a promising career ahead.
