GBA Reactivates Plan To Return Olanrewaju’s Body
The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), in collaboration with Osibor Boxing Management and the Nigerian High Commission in Accra, has officially reactivated the process to airlift the body of the late Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, to Nigeria.
This development follows a directive from the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, instructing all parties involved to resume the repatriation efforts.
The process had previously been paused pending the outcome of investigations into the cause of the boxer’s death by a 7-member committee inaugurated by the minister.
GBA President, Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye, and CEO of Osibor Boxing Management, Mr. Gordon Frimpong, had initially planned to transport the body by road.
However, in a recent joint decision with the Nigerian High Commission, they have agreed that airlifting the remains is a more suitable and expedient option.
Mr. Neequaye has formally communicated the renewed plan to the minister and assured him of continuous updates to expedite the process.
This comes amid growing pressure from the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) for a swift repatriation.
The GBA has pledged to keep the public informed on every stage of the process until the body of the late boxer is successfully transported to his home country.
Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, remembered for his contributions to the sport, passed away under circumstances that prompted an official investigation. His legacy continues to resonate across the West African boxing community.
