Amusan Breaks Record, Leads Africa In Rabat

Nigeria’s sprint queen, Tobi Amusan, reaffirmed her status as a global hurdling force with a commanding performance at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday, clocking a season’s best and African lead of 12.45s to win the women’s 100m hurdles.

The world record holder delivered a flawless race, storming past the field to not only secure victory but also set a new Meeting Record in the Moroccan capital. Her time stands as the fastest by any African athlete this year, underlining her return to peak form ahead of a crucial Olympic year.

Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser finished second in 12.57s, while Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska claimed third in 12.69s, but the night belonged to Amusan, who looked composed, explosive, and in control throughout the race.

This performance marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian star, who has steadily built momentum this season after an injury-plagued 2023. It also sends a strong message to her rivals as the Paris 2024 Olympics draw nearer.

“I’m trusting the process, staying patient, and putting in the work,” Amusan said after the race. “Tonight was about executing and getting the job done, and I’m grateful it all came together.”

With this victory, Amusan adds another Diamond League win to her name and remains a firm favourite to defend her continental and world status in the months ahead.
