Amusan Eyes Diamond League Glory In Morocco
Nigeria’s female hurdles sensation in athletics, Tobi Amusan says she will be all out to make another outstanding mark this Sunday, as she goes for her first race of the year at the Wanda Diamond League in Rabat, Morocco.
Amusan had been hoping to start her season at the 2025 World Relays Championship earlier this month in Guangzhou, China, but Nigeria’s late withdrawal after a controversial visa applications mix-up put paid to that plan.
Consequently, the 100mH world record holder has now turned her attention fully on the fourth lap of the 2025 Diamond League, which comes up this Sunday in Rabat, where Amusan said she is going with high expectations of setting even faster marks that she previously had.
The 28-year-old hurdler and sprinter, who set a world leading time of 22.12s at the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Eugene, Oregon, USA, said she is not under any pressure to win in Rabat, but pointed out that she always has a personal target about what she wants to achieve at each point in time.
Amusan disclosed: “Like I’ve always said every year, no pressure. I just concentrate on my line and my track. I just try and do what I know how to do best. I’m still the same Tobi. Other than a little pressure, when you step on the track and you expect to win the race, I’m ready to go.”
Despite some poor results that she has recorded in recent months, the holder of a masters degree in Leadership and Sports Management from the University of Texas in El-Paso, USA said she is as good as she has ever been, but is determined to do even better this time out.
“I’m in shape, and nothing has really changed for me. It’s just me, and I’m striving towards the next turn. I’m happy, knowing that I’ve hit my first target, which was raising the previous world record. Now I have a new target of going faster than my personal best,” Amusan revealed.
