Barça Captain Predicts Champions League Glory After La Liga Win

It has been a complicated season on a personal level for Ronald Araujo at FC Barcelona.

The Uruguayan international missed the entire first half of the campaign due to injury and he has had to make do with a reduced role after returning, with Hansi Flick preferring the pairing of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez.

Araujo entertained the possibility of leaving the club in January before renewing his contract and has delivered inconsistent performances that drew criticism – particularly in the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan.

The Champions League is coming, insists Araujo
While things may have been difficult, Araujo has added another La Liga title to his name, along with the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.

And, speaking to Barça One during the team’s bus parade celebrations last evening, the 26-year-old reflected on the successful campaign for the team.

“We are very happy. We have worked hard this season, we have worked a lot. At the beginning of the season, nobody gave us a chance and now we are champions of the league,” he began.

“The club has made important changes. We have a very good staff and La Masia is incredible.”

Araujo also emphasised the ambition of this generation and made clear that the Champions League remains the major objective.

“We are very happy for the Culers. We are missing the Champions League, which is what they deserve, but it will come. Trust us,” he stated confidently.

Christensen, Lewandowski revel
Other players also shared their thoughts during the celebrations. One of them was Andreas Christensen, who finished the season in strong form after recovering from a long-term injury.

“Two leagues in three seasons is unbelievable. This time it’s better than last time. We don’t get tired, we are hungry for more,” said the Danish defender.

“We can feel that this is very important for the fans. As a player, there is nothing better than being able to celebrate with them. I’m proud of the team, everyone has given everything,” Christensen added.

Veteran Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski also praised the team’s achievement and the style in which they have won the titles this season, saying:

“It’s unbelievable what we’ve done, how we’ve played. A lot of people have fallen in love with how we have played. I really appreciate it and I’m really enjoying it. Playing with such young guys makes me feel like a teenager myself.”
