United Injury Worries Mount As Stars Miss Key Training Before Europa League final
Red Devils are sweating over the fitness of key defenders ahead of Bilbao showdown with Tottenham on May 21
Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro all missed Manchester United training on Wednesday, providing Ruben Amorim with a defensive headache ahead of the Europa League final.
Though, the good news is that Diogo Dalot trained separately in his bid to prove his fitness for the showdown in Bilbao against Tottenham on May 21.
De Ligt missed the Europa League semi-final second leg win over Athletic Club with an injury sustained in the 4-3 loss to Brentford and it was serious enough to keep him out of Sunday’s home loss to West Ham.
Heaven last featured in a matchday squad against Newcastle last month, whilst Yoro went off in the second half against the Hammers.
Speaking after the game, Amorim did not seem particularly worried about the Frenchman’s condition.
He said: “We will assess the player, but I think it is a small thing. We hope it’s nothing serious.”
None of the trio were spotted at Man Utd’s training base at Carrington on Wednesday morning as the rest of the first-team squad were put through their paces before Friday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea and then the big European final.
Amorim is due to provide an update on the fitness of the aforementioned trio when he holds a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Dalot has been absent since suffering a calf injury prior to last month’s draw away at Bournemouth but could be in contention for the final after completing an individual training session with the club’s physio.
