Serie A Finale Might Shift To Midweek If Title Goes To Playoff
Reports in Italy suggest the final game of the Serie A season could be played on Thursday night rather than Sunday due to a possible Scudetto playoff involving Napoli and Champions League Finalist Inter.
Serie A Round 38 could be played next Thursday, according to Gazzetta dello Sport and other Italian media.
Kick-off times and dates for the season’s final round have yet to be released.
In fact, Lega Serie A is considering moving the Week 38 matches midweek just in case Napoli and Inter finish level on points and need to play a Scudetto playoff to determine the 2024-25 title winner.
Serie A Scudetto playoff: when it could be played
The current domestic campaign is supposed to finish on the weekend of May 25, but Inter have also qualified for the Champions League Final on May 31.
This means that if Napoli and Inter finish level on points on May 25, the Nerazzurri would need to play a Scudetto playoff two or three days later before the Champions League Final the following Saturday.
By moving the final round midweek, Inter and Napoli could play the potential Scudetto playoff on May 25, leaving almost one week for the Nerazzurri to prepare for the Champions League Final against PSG.
Simone Inzaghi’s men currently sit second in the Serie A table, one point below Napoli.
Nine games of the next round, the penultimate of the season, including Inter-Lazio and Parma-Napoli, will be played simultaneously on Sunday evening.
