Celtic or Premier League? Vardy’s Transfer Dilemma
Jamie Vardy would have a “lot to offer” Celtic should Brendan Rodgers opt for a reunion.
That’s according to former Scotland international Paul Dickov who reckons the experienced striker has plenty left in the tank at the age of 38. But Dickov feels that also means a Premier League stay could be in the offing.
Vardy is poised to become a free agent at the season’s end as his contract expires at relegated Leicester City.
It brings to an end a 13-year association with the club and the England international admitted the time is right for something new.
With Rodgers having worked with Vardy at the Foxes, one school of thought is that they could team up once again at Parkhead.
With Kyogo having departed for Rennes in January and hitherto wideman Daizen Maeda operating as a striker, it’s thought the Hoops could be on the lookout for more firepower this summer.
And Dickov reckons Vardy could be a good fit if his former boss moves for him.
He told 10bet: “To go to Scotland, I don’t know. Maybe the obvious link-up is with Brendan at Celtic after his time at Leicester with Jamie. I still think he’s got a lot to offer.
“You still see him even now as a 38-year-old veteran. He’s still playing off the shoulders of centre-halves in the Premier League. He’s still buzzing around, closing people down, scoring goals.
“So I still think he’s got a lot to offer down here, whether that be in the Premier League or top-level Championship, or Wrexham who are promoted to the Championship now and have been linked.
“You look at him, he looks fit as a fiddle. He probably could go on and play for another two seasons at the top level as well.
“So I’m pretty sure there’ll be a lot of top clubs still in for Jamie Vardy because he’s still got a hell of a lot to offer on the pitch and off the pitch well.”
