Super Eagles Attacker Among Five Ligue 1 Goal Of The Season Nominees
Super Eagles and Nantes forward, Moses Simon, has joined four other Ligue 1 footballers to contend for the 2024/2025 Goal of the Season award.
The 29-year-old is enjoying his best season in the French top-flight this term, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists, beating the record of his debut campaign with the Yellow Canaries.
Away from his numbers, Simon’s pace and flair has seen him nominated for another award asides the Marc-Vivien Foe Award.
As per French outlet, L’Equipe, Moses Simon was nominated for the goal of the season award alongside Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco), Amine Gouiri (Olympique de Marseille), Esteban Lepaul (Angers), and Andrey Santos (Strasbourg). The award ceremony will take place during the UNFP Trophies on May 11. The votes are being cast here.
Maghnes Akliouche’s nominated goal was his brilliant overhead kick against Stade Rennes back in January.
Amine Gouiri’s overhead kick in Marseille’s 4-1 win against Brest last month, Esteban Lepaul’s side-footed volley against Paris Saint-Germain back in November, Andre Santos’ long range strike against FC Toulouse in March, and Moses Simon’s solo goal that saw him beat three Rennes players to find the back of the net just before Christmas were all nominated. Watch the goals here.
Nantes are just one point above the Ligue 1 relegation spots, and they need all the points they can get before the season runs out. Additionally, they face the possibility of losing Moses Simon in the coming transfer window amidst interest from several bigger clubs outside of France.
