Milan Is Consistent And Ready For The Coppa Italia Final, Says Pulisic and Gimenez
Santiago Gimenez insists Milan are ‘ready’ for the Coppa Italia Final after beating Bologna 3-1 in Serie A, while Christian Pulisic feels they finally ‘found some consistency.’
This was the fourth consecutive victory in all competition for the Rossoneri, although it may well be too late to improve their Serie A position.
Just like last week away to Genoa, they needed a slap to wake up, going behind to Riccardo Orsolini’s opener before turning it all around with a Gimenez brace and Pulisic for the 3-1 result.
It is the ideal way for Milan to prepare for Wednesday’s Coppa Italia Final, which curiously will also be against Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico on May 14.
“Wednesday is very important for us. We are well-prepared, we’ve come off four wins and we are ready for this Final,” Gimenez told Sky Sport Italia.
He was a substitute today, but did the two goals put him in pole position to lead the attack on Wednesday?
“The coach makes the decisions and we respect that, but the important thing is that whether we start or come off the bench, we are ready.”
Milan the comeback kings under Conceicao
The Rossoneri have now earned an extra 22 Serie A points by fighting back from trailing situations, 19 of them were under Sergio Conceicao’s tenure.
It also goes without saying that their campaign changed when moving to a three-man defence, losing only to Atalanta in that period.
“We found some consistency now, which is important for us,” Pulisic told Sky Sport Italia.
“We know that we have a great spirit, but we’re playing really good games at the moment.”
Sergio Conceicao already won the Supercoppa Italiana in January with a comeback victory over Inter in Saudi Arabia, so would winning the Coppa Italia save the season?
“If we win two trophies in one season, you cannot say that is a normal campaign. We want to keep that going,” concluded Pulisic.
“Of course, we’re not satisfied with where we are in Serie A, but we’re doing well right now and it is important that we end the season well.”
