McTominay Has ‘Told’ Kevin De Bruyne Why He Must Reject Liverpool
By Daniel Akinte With Agency Reports
Manchester United’s Scott McTominay has already ‘told’ Kevin de Bruyne why he should join Napoli instead of Liverpool.
After winning 16 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League with Manchester City, De Bruyne announced in April that the he would leave the club at the end of the season.
Since his departure was announced, several clubs have been linked with a move for the Belgian, with City’s Premier League rivals Liverpool and Serie A side Napoli believed to be the frontrunners.
But, ahead of De Bruyne deciding what’s next in his already storied career, he may want to consider the advice of McTominay, who joined Napoli at the beginning of the season.
Since his arriving at Napoli as part of a £25.7million deal last summer, former United midfielder McTominay has been enjoying a new lease of life.
In Italy, the midfielder has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in Europe this season, scoring 11 goals in 31 Serie A appearances and playing a vital role in Napoli’s title battle.
A report from The Daily Mail claimed that both McTominay and girlfriend Cam Reading have fallen in love with the Italian club and are thankful they made the move from Manchester.
“Things were difficult in Manchester,” the Scotsman said during an interview with The Athletic.
“I didn’t know what was happening exactly. And you instantly know Napoli, the passion of the fans, the quality of the league.
“People have to be careful when people say Italy or Spain aren’t on a par with the Premier League. Physically and tactically, I’ve had some of my hardest games here.”
It’s clear that Napoli has not only offered McTominay a new life on the pitch, but has also greatly improved his life off of the pitch with his family, and both of these factors could play a massive role in Napoli’s pursuit of De Bruyne.
Unless De Bruyne decides to sign a short-term deal to stay for the upcoming Club World Cup, it appears De Bruyne has only four games remaining with City, meaning he will soon have to decide where he will play next.
