Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has admitted that the club has been trying to sign Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu from Southampton, but the English club’s valuation has been the problem.
Onuachu shone like a million stars during his loan stint at Trabzonspor last season, contributing 17 goals and four assists in 25 games.
Following his impressive stint at the club, there were talks that Trabzonspor were interested in keeping the Super Eagles star permanently. The talks dragged on for most of last summer. Eventually, Onuachu stayed at Southampton.
This season, the Super Eagles star has contributed four goals and one assist in 24 appearances. Meanwhile, speculations about a Trabzonspor transfer have not stopped, especially as Southampton have been relegated to the Championship.
What Trabzonspor’s president said about Paul Onuachu
While Ertugrul noted that Onuachu is not in their plans at the moment, he also said that Trabzonspor recently enquired about him.
“Onuachu is a player that was on our agenda but we could not get him due to financial figures,” Ertugrul said, per Transfermarkt.
“We asked recently, his club still insists on the same figures. We do not have such an agenda at the moment.”
According to Transfermarkt, Onuachu is valued at €8 million, and this is a significant drop from the €15 million Southampton were asking for last summer.
