Burnley Become Greatest Team Ever To Finish Second In EFL History

Before the start of Saturday’s action, Burnley were level with Leeds United on 97 points before defeating Millwall 3-1 at home.

However, Leeds also won. They came from a goal down to defeat the relegated Plymouth Argyle on their visit.

Willy Gnonto fired them level, and a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Manor Solomon clinched the silverware for the Whites.

Leeds have finished the 2024/25 Championship season on 100 points, and so have Scott Parker’s side ahead of their return to the Premier League.

But the Clarets will despair at the fact that reaching a century wasn’t enough for them to win the title due to an inferior goal difference.

The fact is, they have become the first ever team in the EFL four tiers to amass 100 points and not win the title.

Throughout all 46 matches in the Championship this season, Burnley saw defeat on just two occasions.

Also, they went undefeated at home and kept 30 clean sheets in total, but have had to settle for second.

Josh Brownhill scored two goals in their victory against Millwall, with Jaidon Anthony also on the scoresheet at Turf Moor.
