David Beckham At 50: A Football Icon Who Became So Much More

David Beckham is celebrating turning 50. Once famed for his performance on the pitch, he is now a household name for numerous reasons.

From captaining the Three Lions, to gardening, being the biggest cheerleader of his fashion icon wife, and a successful businessman, here’s a look at his 33 years in the spotlight.

David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations
Celebrations have already begun for Beckham with a family bash at his Cotswold home.

His wife, Victoria Beckham, shared a clip from the celebrations on social media.

“Happy birthday eve @davidbeckham… my everything. My best friend, soul mate, and dance partner for life,” she wrote.

In attendance was Victoria, his sister-in-law Louise Adams, and his son Cruz, with his girlfriend, Jackie Apostel. It is likely that the rest of his children, Harper, Romeo and Brooklyn were also guests at the party but they are yet to be pictured.

Beckham had another black-tie soirée in Florida last month, where football stars Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and American footballer Tom Brady all scrubbed up to kick off birthday celebrations a little early.

Tonight, it has been rumoured that David will continue the jolly with an intimate dinner party at three-Michelin starred restaurant Core by Clare Smyth.

In addition to Victoria’s premature birthday best wishes, the former Spice girl also posted a second reel this morning, compiling a series of intimate family moments and best bits.

His son Romeo, who followed in his father’s footballing footsteps for a while, has also shared a post on Instagram, naming Becks as his “role model”.

Cruz Beckham, his youngest son, shared a story on social media with the caption “I love you”.

Eldest son Brooklyn is yet to publicly share birthday wishes and daughter Harper does not currently have a social media presence.

What does David Beckham do now?
His career in football is nothing short of a major achievement. Teams he was in won the Premier League title six times, the FA cup twice, the FA Charity Shield twice and the Uefa Champions League in 1999. In international football, Beckham made 115 appearances, representing his country at three Fifa World Cups.

Although his football-playing days are behind him, David Beckham is still in love with the “beautiful game”. He is the co-owner and president of Inter Miami CF and the co-owner of Salford City.

He previously founded the David Beckham Academy in London and Los Angeles, though both football schools closed in late 2009.

Beckham has been a Unicef goodwill ambassador for almost two decades, having also launched the 7 Fund with the charity to give disadvantaged and vulnerable children better opportunities. He has also campaigned for Malaria No More.

He has promoted British fashion as the ambassadorial president of the British Fashion Council.

Beckham was also a partner in the whisky brand Haig Club, having been the face of the single grain scotch for several years.

He launched a wellness supplement venture, named I.M.8. The offering is a supplement powder with 92 nutrient-rich ingredients in an acai and berry-flavoured drink, a daily supplement and the Beckham stack, which is a combination of both products.

A family man
Charity, football and business aside, Beckham wears many hats. He is a father to his four children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, and husband to his equally famed wife, Victoria Beckham.

In recent years, he has been Victoria’s biggest cheerleader, supporting her at every fashion show.

While rumours have circulated about a potential Beckham family feud between his two sons, the Beckham clan have generally seemed as tight as ever.
