37 Goals Record: How Victor Osimhen May Likely Break Rashidi Yekini’s 27-Year-Old Jinx In 2025

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has emerged as Nigeria’s leading goal scorer following the legendary Rashidi Yekini, who previously held the position with 37 goals.

Osimhen has surpassed the longstanding record of Segun Odegbami, positioning himself as the second-highest goal scorer for the Nigeria senior national team.

Osimhen, who is currently enjoying remarkable form with Galatasaray where he has scored 20 goals and provided four assists in 20 Super Lig games, now needs 12 more goals to equal Yekini’s record of 37 goals, which has stood since the striker’s last game for Nigeria in 1998.

Given Osimhen’s impressive form, there exists a strong possibility that he may become the all-time leading goalscorer by the year 2025, particularly with numerous international fixtures scheduled, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco in 2025, where he is anticipated to be a prominent star.

He requires only 11 goals to equal Yekini’s record and 12 goals to surpass it, which translates to an average of two goals per match.

In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, former Green Eagles member Segun Odegbami expressed his belief that Victor Osimhen possesses the potential to break the longstanding international goal record set by Rashidi Yekini.

Odegbami commended Osimhen for surpassing his own 44-year-old record, now placing him as the second-highest goal scorer in the history of the senior national team.

He emphasized the necessity for emerging strikers to elevate their performance levels, as both his own record and that of the renowned Yekini had remained intact for an extended duration.
