Onigbinde confident in Super Eagles’ ability ahead of Rwanda, Zimbabwe WC Qualifiers

Former FIFA and CAF technical director, Chief Adeboye Onigbinde, has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ natural talents as they prepare for crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Nigeria will first face group leaders Rwanda in March, who currently sit at the top of the qualifying table with seven points from four matches, three points ahead of the Super Eagles, who are second from bottom.

The Super Eagles will then host Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

Onigbinde highlighted Nigeria’s immense footballing potential but emphasized the need for proper talent management.

“It depends on how you look at it. If you are thinking of the quality possessed by Nigeria, what I can call natural talents, then there is no reason why Nigeria should not beat Rwanda. Not only Rwanda but other teams in our group. Nigeria has the materials to be one of the best in the world. But then, how do we manage some of these talents?”

He also urged a focus on achieving key goals.

“I want the best for the Super Eagles at this point in time. Both the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and qualifying for the 2026 World Cup should be our priorities.”
