NNL banishes Rovers FC to Eket, fines Ekiti United, Coal City FC

The Nigeria National League, NNL, has banished Rovers FC from their home ground, UJ Eugene stadium, Calabar to the Eket Stadium in Akwa Ibom State.

The decision followed the poor security arrangements in Rovers’ home game. against Ekiti United.

Ekiti United goalkeeper was attacked by a Rovers FC fan during the game.

Rovers will also pay a fine of N1m and have been asked to either produce the attacker or show evidence that they are prosecuting him.

Meanwhile, Ekiti United were also fined N500,000 for abandoning the match.

The clubs were asked to complete the match in the Eket Stadium.

The NNL also recommended the stepping down of match officials and match Commissioners involved in the game for doing a poor job.

The memo reads, “For breach of security, assault and encroachment, Rovers FC is hereby fined the sum of N1,000,000.00 in consonance with article 16.2 of the rules framework.

“That Rovers FC must produce the person that assaulted the Ekiti Utd FC goalkeeper, and (or) produce evidence of prosecution.

“Ekiti Utd FC is fined the sum of N500,000.00 for refusing to continue the game, citing inadequate security. Article 14.9 of the NNL rules framework is hereby applied.

“The referee and the match commissioner are hereby recommended for delisting by the appropriate bodies for poor handling and ineptitude towards the game.”

In another verdict, Coal City FC was fined N1m for failure to provide hard or soft copy of their club license in their away game to Stormers SC.

Coal City reportedly disclosed that they forget to carry along the license to the away game.
