African Games: Nigerian Sports Minister visits sick athlete, commends medical team
Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development Senator John Owan Enoh on Monday visited a ‘Team Nigeria’ athlete, Ibrahim Abdullahi who suffered a tension pneumothorax that triggered a Cardiac arrest during his Judo match at the 13th African Games in Ghana.
The Minister took time off his busy schedule to visit the athlete in a Ghanaian medical facility to enable him to assess his level of recovery.
At the time of the visitation, Dr. Ofei-Labi his Cardiothoracic Surgeon confirmed his fitness to be discharged from the hospital having spent about a week after his post-discharge management.
Speaking during the visit, Senator Enoh commended the medical team that helped in saving his life noting that all glory goes to Almighty God who did not allow ‘Team Nigeria’ to suffer any loss of life.
” I must have to commend the medical team and the Cardiologist for doing a great job which helped in not only stabilizing the athlete when the unfortunate incident happened but also following it up to ensure he recovered from the cardiac arrest.
” It’s equally important, I give glory to the Almighty God who came to the rescue of the athlete and ensured that we did not lose him”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister has seen to modalities for his safe return back to Nigeria.
