Abdullahi thankful after Akwa United’s victory over Enyimba

Akwa United caretaker coach, Umar Abdullahi has congratulated his players for their fighting spirit in the 3-1 victory over Enyimba.

Abdullahi also thanked the fans for their wonderful support to the team.

The Promise Keepers marked their return to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, with a remarkable performance against the reigning Nigeria Premier Football League champions.

The Uyo club raced into a two-goal lead through David Philip and Sani Suleiman.

Imo Obot halved the deficit for Enyimba before Suleiman scored his second of the game in stoppage time.

“I’m really proud of our performance in today’s game. Our recent results have not been encouraging so we needed to get back to winning ways as soon as possible and the boys responded in a wonderful way.

“The atmosphere was perfect and the support was massive in today’s game and I’m very happy that we got all three points which is definitely a big step forward for us.

“We have been playing well but find it difficult to get the desired results. With this victory, we hope to build on it going forward in the remaining matches of the season,” he said.

Akwa United determined to reach President Federation Cup Final — Boboye

Kennedy Boboye

Akwa United’s technical adviser, Kennedy Boboye, has emphasized the team’s determination to reach the final of the 2025 President Federation Cup.

The Promise Keepers are set to face Pillars Investors in the qualifying round of the prestigious competition.

Currently battling relegation in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Akwa United have yet to secure a win under Boboye’s leadership.

The coach believes that a victory in the Federation Cup will significantly boost the team’s morale and positively impact their league form.

“At this point, it is important for us to win every match we play, irrespective of who our opponents are,” Boboye told Akwa United media.

“Knockout competitions are full of surprises, and we won’t gamble with our selection. We will approach this match with all seriousness, knowing that victory will boost our morale and restore our confidence.”

He stressed the need to approach the FA Cup with caution, stating, “The FA Cup is a knockout competition, and we cannot afford to underrate any team. Our focus is to win our games and ensure we secure qualification to represent the state in the President Federation Cup competition.”

Boboye’s side will be hoping that a strong run in the cup will spark a turnaround in their NPFL fortunes.
