14th Biennial Police Games: Zone 17 Beat Force Headquarters To Handball Gold

The handball team of Zone 17 to the ongoing 14th Biennial Police Games in Ibadan, Oyo State has won a gold medal after defeating the male handball squad of the Force Headquarters.

The Zone 17 handball team overwhelmed the Force Headquarters team by 16 goals to 7 as the team emerged champion in the male category.

In the keenly contested third placed match, Zone 2 defeated Zone 3 by a slim victory of 12 goals to 11 and carted home the games bronze medal.

In the female category, Zone 17 again showed their superior fire power by defeating Zone 2 by 11 goals to 1 thus making their zone the overall champion in the handball event.

In the third placed match, Force Hq rally to be on the podium by defeating Zone 7 by 11 goals to 5 to cliches the third place and the bronze medal.

In a related development, Women Police Officer Constable Grikpa Tombrapa of Zone 16 has won 5 gold medal in the cycling event at the ongoing games as she emerged victorious at the road race, 200m 500m, 1 kilometer and the team event.

The elated police constable who was full of joy revealed that she was already in the national Cycling camp, adding that the Games had given her golden opportunity to further train and prepare for the All Africa Games slated for Ghana next month.

“It is a big opportunity for me to prepare myself for the forthcoming All Africa Games and from what you can see, I’m not doing badly.

“I can promise Nigeria that from the good preparation giving to members of the cycling team, they should expect medal from the All Africa Games by God’s grace,” she said.
