Heartland have placed their players on half salaries untill further notice following the club’s humiliating defeat to Plateau United on Wednesday.
The former Nigeria Premier Football League champions suffered a 5-1 defeat to Plateau United at the Awka City Stadium on Wednesday.
The Naze Millionaires occupy bottom position on the NPFL table and face a tough fight to retain their top-flight status.
Heartland General Manager, Promise Nwachukwu hinted that the players will be further sanctioned if they fail to step up their performance.
“The club management has decided to slash the salaries of the players by half as from now henceforth until the team’s performance improves,” Nwachukwu told the club’s media.
“I was just deeply rooted to one spot after the game yesterday and was the last to leave the stadium because I could not have envisaged the poor performance the players exhibited against Plateau United. They played as if nothing was at stake and as If they were bereft of ideas.”
Heartland will host Sunshine Stars in their next NPFL game on Sunday.
